You can help

By now, we hope you see how vital Men's Sheds are—to our members and our communities.

You might even be wondering how you can help.

Men’s Sheds bring together mostly retired men, some of whom were forced into early retirement by layoffs, injuries, or other life changes. What we share is time, skills, wisdom—yet no real forum to put them to use.

Our shed is a place to build friendships, share knowledge and skills, contribute to our communities, and fight the isolation that too often leads to depression.

We are the product of our time.
When our personalities were formed 6 to 8 decades ago, society had different expectations. We were raised in a time when men didn’t ask for help. We were taught to endure, to provide, to push through. Talking about feelings doesn’t come easy. But working together—fixing, building, creating—does. That’s our therapy.

Offer a man traditional therapy and he won't show up, but ask a man to help on a shared project then he will. Through that shared work, we share a bit of ourselves, slowly, reluctantly and painfully. Some call it "Stealth Help". We call it a "Social Health Care Innovation".

Our Shed doesn’t struggle for talent or drive—we struggle for workshop space that we can make our own, equip with tools, where we turn discarded men and materials into something meaningful.

You can help:
-Spread the word so more men can find a Shed or start one.
-Send us community projects that needs doing.
-Donate tools or materials.
-Help yourself. Join us when your time is right.
-Donate some cash to help pay the rent.

Every bit helps keep the Shed doors open—and the men inside thriving.

We are incorporated as a Not-for-Profit and are working towards Registered Charity status.

Our big ask
Right now, we’re limited in the number of men we can accommodate and what we can do for the community because we’ve outgrown our 1,600-square-foot workshop. To keep making a difference and grow our capacity for good, we need a minimum of 3,000 square feet—enough for:
A “dirty” space for woodworking metalworking, laser cutting, etc. We will install the dust collection systems.
A clean area for wood finishing, electronics, and the fine work of 3D Printing.
A meeting space for training and team-building

The ideal space? An old building with access to a garage door for moving large projects in and out. We can fix it up ourselves. Most importantly, it needs to be affordable. Volunteers shouldn’t have to pay high membership fees just to give back to their community.

Know of a space or a way to pay for it? Connect us. We’ll take care of the rest.
Thanks for thinking about a bunch of old guys who have a little gas still left in their tank. That kind of consideration is rarer that you might think.
